A Glass for Every Wine

If you pride yourself on enjoying fine wines, the next step may just be buying the right glasses to drink them from.

The Riedel glass manufacturing company is renowned for their high quality glasses. They have recently begun making glasses which are specifically designed to enhance the taste of some wine varietals. Different wines exhibit different characteristics, and they believe that their specially designed glasses can help the good qualities of a particular beverage be better experienced by the drinker.

For example, they have created a glass designed specifically for drinking ice wine. The way the shape of the glass is formed is supposed to help direct the liquid in the mouth to accentuate its qualities to the fullest.

Varietal Regions

Now they have branched out even more, with a glass designed specially for Pinot Noir wines from Oregon. Does this mark a trend? Will Riedel begin making glasses suiting every region within varietals?

Is it Practical?

The average home just does not have the room for a huge collection of specialty wine glasses. But if you have a few favorite wines or spirits that you buy on a regular basis, purchasing specialty glasses can be rewarding.

On the other hand, those with the room and the desire can satisfy their oenophile tendencies with specialized glasses for many wines and spirits including champagne flutes.

Wine Glass Guide

If this has you a bit confused, the Riedel website has a Wine and Glass Guide to help you choose the best glass for a particular wine. They have a list of over a hundred wines to choose from, listed in alphabetical order. Click on the variety you would like and they will suggest the glasses best suited for the particular wine. Go to the guide at http://www.wineglassguide.com.
